Child Abuse Prevention Policy Statement Revised

The PSWD Executive Board revised its “Child Abuse Prevention Policy Statement” on Friday, August 3, 2012 with a new section on gift giving. You can read the statement at: www.pswdcob.org/youth/youth-worker-forms  All of our district conference volunteers working with children and youth read and sign this statement and go through a background check.
.
Does your church have a similar policy in place? Many organizations (churches included) miss the obvious by not having an official policy and teaching parents, workers and volunteers.
.
In 2012, the district office mailed each PSWD congregation a free copy of the May/June issue of the Church Law & Tax Report containing the article “12 Lessons Church Leaders Can Learn from Penn State’s Abuse Scandal
.
Our church insurance company asks churches to do background checks on youth, Sunday School, and nursery workers. PSWD and the denominational office use National Background Investigation, Inc: www.nationalbackground.com Email the district office frontdesk@pswdcob.org for help signing up your church or camp for the reduced rate for each background check.
