Instructor and Presenters Biographical Information:
Joe Schechter is a member
of the La Verne Church of the Brethren, Retired General Surgeon, A.B. Manchester College, M.D. Northwestern University,
Fellow American College of Surgeons, Member: Tri-County Surgical Society, California Medical Association and A.M.A.,
Moderator - PSWD 2006, and
former Board Member ABC.
Kathy Reid is the Executive
Director of the Association of Brethren Caregivers, an agency of the Church of the Brethren with twenty years of
experience as a pastor. She has authored books on religious education and child abuse prevention as well as curriculum
to teach children about inequality and discrimination. M.Ed. Georgia State University, M.Div. Pacific School of
Religion, B.A. Manchester College
Mary Dulabaum is staff
representative for Voice: Mental Health/Illness Ministry of the Association of Brethren Caregivers. Voice seeks
to raise awareness about the church’s role of providing hope and love for those living with mental illness.
Karen Walters is a tax
accountant, a licensed minister, a member of the Papago Buttes Church of the Brethren, Scottsdale, AZ, and is the
PSWD representative to Standing Committee.
Dena Gilbert is the Coordinator
of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Pacific Southwest District, an ordained minister, and a member of the
La Verne Church of the Brethren.
Who Should Attend: This course is designed for TRIM students, licensed ministers,
pastors, and lay persons interested in becoming more aware of the needs of persons with various disabilities encountered
in our faith fellowships. The specifics of some of the disabilities and how to interact with persons with those
disabilities will be presented.
